Alexander Schmidt collection, 1942-1945

This World War II collection covers the overseas experience of a sailor in the U.S. Navy aboard the escort aircraft carrier U.S.S. Natoma Bay (CVE 62), Composite Squadron 63 (VC-63). The collection includes sets of uniforms, a bomber jacket, personal papers, medals, awards, and a plaque. His personal papers include personnel documents, two journals, captured Japanese papers, the Bluejacket Manual, Natoma Bay records, and various publications from and about the Natoma Bay Association. The papers primarily document his time spent in the Pacific Campaign, although his records also date his trainings in Rhode Island and Jacksonville, Florida. This sailor also has a memoir titled Between Here and There that details his life and military experiences. He died in 2010.

Betty S. Gilson papers, 1943-1946, bulk 1943-1945

Betty S. and husband John Gilson were both medical doctors in residence in Cleveland, Ohio until John was called on active duty in the Navy. The letters in this collection were exchanged from 1944-1945 and discuss his experience in the Navy as well has her struggles on the homefront with balancing child care and professional duties while her husband served away in the U.S. Navy.

The collection includes personal, medical, and financial records, appreciation letters, shipping tickets, a photograph of the 41-D graduating class of Gunter Field in Montgomery, Alabama, special orders and assigments, an original personnel file, an original flight records file, modern records and information, and a briefcase used for dead reckoning navigational records and equipment.

This collection contains the personal papers and memorabillia of Clifford Robert Cain (United States Navy's, Aviation Radioman First Class, Chief Petty Officer Electronicsman) including his aviator's log book, discharge papers, certificate of training completion, financial records, identification card, leatherbound service record case, and various documents from the Veteran's Administration.  Cain served at Lakehurst Naval Air Station.  He supported the Blimp-Zeppelin program.

This collection relates to Staff Sergeant Warren R. MacInnes (part of the 834th) in Italy. The box contains letters and photographs sent to him from his wife while he was stationed on the Italian front in Europe. In addition, there are periodicals and pamphlets related to the reintroduction of soldiers from the Italian front back into civilian life Stateside.  This collection also contains documents related to Private Gerald Greenbaum who served with 1560th Service Unit, Medical Section-Station Complement, Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

His letters of correspondence to family and friends are about his daily life, on the ship and off. Broome in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters during World War II and his life after the war. i) This collection consists of personal correspondence between Mr. Burke and his wife from 1940 to 1946, military personnel orders, military certificates, a personal journal of Mr. Burke's regarding torpedo notes, photocopies and original copies of pictures depicting civilian life and naval life, papers covering post-war memorial involvement, Four Piper Destroyer Fellowship materials, video interviews of Edward T. Burke Jr., World War II documentaries, and military artifacts including lapel pins and medals.
