Alexander Schmidt collection, 1942-1945

This World War II collection covers the overseas experience of a sailor in the U.S. Navy aboard the escort aircraft carrier U.S.S. Natoma Bay (CVE 62), Composite Squadron 63 (VC-63). The collection includes sets of uniforms, a bomber jacket, personal papers, medals, awards, and a plaque. His personal papers include personnel documents, two journals, captured Japanese papers, the Bluejacket Manual, Natoma Bay records, and various publications from and about the Natoma Bay Association. The papers primarily document his time spent in the Pacific Campaign, although his records also date his trainings in Rhode Island and Jacksonville, Florida. This sailor also has a memoir titled Between Here and There that details his life and military experiences. He died in 2010.

Anne Burke papers, 1942-2000, bulk 1942-1945

Anne Burke was a nurse in the US Army Nurse Corps at the USA Fourth General Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, during World War II. The collection primarily relates to her relationship with First Lieutenant Andrew W. O'Rourke, Jr. of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. The collection includes thirty-nine letters written by Andrew to Anne during the war. The letters stop due to Andrew's death as a result of typhus fever.  Also included are four photographs, sixteen letters to Anne of condolences from those who served with Andrew, newspaper clippings, a fellow nurse's memoirs, V-mail, and a greeting card. The letters from Andrew to Anne discuss censorship, the need to keep their marriage secret, religious services, discussions of actions on New Britain, and war bonds.

Clarke M. Brandt collection, 1939-2003, bulk 1943

The collection of Clarke M. Brandt contains an oral history transcript and various publications about army life during World War II. In it are examples such as George (Bob) Caron who was a tail gunner on the "Enola Gay" B-29 Bomber. The oral history includes Caron's eyewitness account of the bomb being dropped on Hiroshima. Also included are pamphlets and newsletters including "War Buddies," which covers the relationship between a soldier and his canine companion through his years as a member of the US Marine Corps. "War Buddies" is written by Earle Welch and Dick Roberts.

This collection relates to Staff Sergeant Warren R. MacInnes (part of the 834th) in Italy. The box contains letters and photographs sent to him from his wife while he was stationed on the Italian front in Europe. In addition, there are periodicals and pamphlets related to the reintroduction of soldiers from the Italian front back into civilian life Stateside.  This collection also contains documents related to Private Gerald Greenbaum who served with 1560th Service Unit, Medical Section-Station Complement, Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

Douglas E. Leach papers, 1942-1945

Douglas Leach served as a U.S. Navy officer during World War II on the U.S.S Elden in the Pacific Theater. His letters of correspondence to family and friends are about his daily life, on the ship and off. His family's letters hold information on how rationing and censorship affected the American family unit during WWII. There are photographs included of Leach's niece and sister.

Edward J. Sidote collection, 1942-1946, bulk 1943-1945

This collection contains letters, documents, ephemera, and memorabilia from Edward J. Sidote who served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army Medical Corps during World War II as an X-ray techician and medical suppy clerk. In May of 1945,  he was assigned to the 9th Medical Depot,  attached to the 6th U.S. Army in Manila, Phillipine Islands, and then Occupied Japan.  In 1946,  Sidote was  honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant in the Army.
