This collection consists of mostly Dutch language civil and military administrative documents and military training booklets from André Laurensius van Assenderp's career as a Dutch colonial administrator (1932-1947) and his service as a Dutch Colonial Army (KNIL) reserve-major in the Netherlands Indies Civil Administration (NICA) during and immediately after WWII. Photographs include: official dutch military photos of the Allied Merauke Force at Merauke, New Guinea (1944-1945) and the Allied invasion of Balikapapan, Borneo (July 1945), photos of André, his wife Carol, and their children, photos from the early lives of André and Carol. Artifacts include a Dutch Colonial Army (KNIL) officer's dress uniform with hat and sword, two Japanese military style swords, individual portrait paintings of André L. van Assenderp and Carol van Assenderp, a British pith helmet and other items. The collection also has personal letters from family members in Holland and the US as well as documents from André's teaching career at the Florida State University (1949-1958).
