Apalachicola Tent and Awning Company Records, 1941 - 2009, bulk 1941 - 1942

This collection consists of the business records from the Apalachicola Tent and Awning Company once located in Apalachicola, Florida. The company manufactured pyramidal tents under contract from the United States Army from early 1941 to at least October 1942. The records are unclear as to when the company ceased operations. J.H. Hodges, Sr. owned the building that housed the company from 1935 until 1951. The records reflect a wide range of day to day operations including ordering raw materials, sending and receiving invoices, tracking orders, requests for information, correspondence with the Federal Government including bids, rating certificates and other needs of the Quartermaster Corps. Additionally, the collection includes plans/diagrams for the tents, Department of Labor safety posters and several personnel photographs.

George A. Keith collection, 1940-2000

This collection relates to the service of George A. Keith who initially served with Company E, 106th Engineer Regiment of the 31st Division (National Guard) during World War II. The collection consists of several official orders and related documents, Christmas card, photographs, cassette tape, and transcript of a group oral history with veterans of the 106th Engineer Regiment, 31st Division. Also included is a copy of a tontine agreement with members of Company E from 1986. Keith was transferred out of 31st Division before it was deployed to the Pacific Theater. Keith served in the European Theater.

Walker papers, 1745-1938

The Walker Papers, dating 1745 to 1938, cover the careers of both George Keith Walker and Major George Wythe Walker. Among those pertaining directly to Major George Wythe Walker is a certificate showing that he was appointed by Governor Francis P. Fleming to be Major of the Eighth Regiment of the enrolled Militia of the State of Florida, and thirteen certificates of appointement as State Attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit of the State of Florida and signed by the ten governors of Florida under whom he served.
