Dr. Mark F. Boyd Collection, 1635-1843

Collection consists mainly of photocopies of original manuscripts in Spanish from Archivos General de Indias, Sevilla, Spain. There are a few translations in Spanish and English in holograph, a few typed copies of the translations and transcription, plus some holograph notes and typed pages of the manuscript by Dr. Boyd. These, the microfilm rolls, and other items that are included in the gift by Dr. Boyd are packed in separate envelopes, boxes and other containers.

This addition to the Dr. Mark F. Boyd Collection consists chiefly of items relating to the duties and activities of Don Juan Joseph de la Puente, St. Augustine, Florida, who, in 1772, was appointed Auditor of Accounts of the Royal Coffers for the Windward Islands, Province of Florida, Louisiana, Yucatan, Campeche, etc., but as other subjects are embraced, the papers have been separated and filed according to main subjects and envelopes and packages are labeled as such.

Fairbanks Collection, 1817-1942

Personal, business and family correspondence, books, business records (account books), and writing materials of George R. Fairbanks. This collection contains 1473 original material items, as well as 567 items which are copies of original materials. The collection contains biographical sketches of George Rainsford Fairbanks and his family history, his will, papers about personal matters, the Civil War, St. Augustine before and during the war, sale of slaves, photographs of Fairbanks, Charles Locke Beard, Charles Massey, and sketches of places such as a church in Palatka, Florida. There is a great deal of Civil War correspondence, including persons such as Senator David Levy Yulee and James Ormond. These letters also include sketches of Anderson Station Stockade, fortifications, camps and hospitals, as well as descriptions of Civil War in Florida, and samples of Confederate and southern poems. His business papers discuss real estate matters, timber rights, the Palatka sawmill, the Bulow Plantation destroyed by Seminole Indians in 1836, preserved by the Bulow Ruins State Park, maps, surveys, correspondence and other materials. He also includes political papers and materials on Florida history, including newspaper clippings, local histories of Nassau and other counties, details about the war with the Indians, and materials on the Oglethorp expedition. There are materials on Florida authors, including a law suit against Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings related to her book, Cross Creek. Materials related to the writings of George Rainsford Fairbanks are also in the collection including newspaper clippings, press notices, and examples of his work. The collection also contains some materials on religion, including the diocese of South Florida and the Episcopal church. Some of the materials related to St. Augustine, New Smyrna and Daytona Beach are housed in the Florida vertical files, and many of the books in the collection have been cataloged and stored separately, and can be viewed upon request.

This collection consists of materials related to the Florida East Coast Railway and other Flagler enterprises. The papers indicate that they maintained offices in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, Florida. There are job descriptions, blueprints, plans, maps, and permission documents from various government officials to proceed with construction.There is also historical information, such as the corporate history of the Atlantic and East Coast Terminal Company.

Correspondence, reports, scrapbooks, clippings, record books, blueprints, contracts, and related materials. This collection consists of a variety of records of St. Augustine, Florida. There is correspondence of city officials of St. Augustine, including memoranda, minutes, a letterpressbook and related materials. Audit reports to St. Augustine cover examination of the accounts of the city, done by various accounting firms by the city auditor. The collection also contains public relations scrapbooks, containing newspaper clippings about the city, legal notices, and other materials. Other materials in the collection cover a range of subjects, including: festivals, Anastasia Lighthouse Reservation, United States Coast Guard letters, vehicle registrations, the Works Progress Administration with both Florida and Federal correspondence, St. Augustine's financial condition, general ordinances of the city, public improvements, subdivisions, reclamation of marsh lands along Sanchez Creek and the San Sebastian River, taxation, real estate, waterworks, Fort Lauderdale auditors report, and charters for the cities of St. Augustine and Ormond.
