Archival Collections

The FSCW/FSU Tarpon Club Collection contains materials documenting the synchronized swimming team's activities and performances. Materials include club documents, photographs, choreography and scripts, newspaper clippings, video, alumni notes, as well as other ephemera documenting the organization's history.

The collection contains multimedia related to the history of Florida State University and its predecessor institutions.

Heritage Protocol Postcard Collection.  Collection of postcards pertaining to Florida State University and its predecessor institutions.

The items in this collection include photographs from Dr. Herman Kurz botany field research. There are also photographs from the Florida State College for Women Faculty-Senior Baseball Game in the early 1920s.

Two letters written by Mary Bates of Tallahassee, Florida. Transcriptions are included with each original letter. One letter is written from Dudley, Massachusetts. Both letters are addressed to a Charles Dana, Jr. of Woodstock, Vermont. In one letter, dated April 11, 1845, Bates gives a vivid description of a sea voyage from New York via Nassau to Florida. According to the letter, during the course of the voyage a leak was discovered in the ship and at the same time hay (a large portion of the cargo) caught fire, so for some days all aboard were in serious peril. This letter also gives a good description of what she called "Warchulla" Springs (Wakulla Springs) in Wakulla County near Tallahassee.

The Paul K. Dougherty Collection includes photographs, documents, and various artifacts Dougherty obtained while in Germany. His collection contains rare original German propaganda publications such as Deutschland Erwach and Adolf Hitler. Also included in the collection is a personal photograph album that belonged to Nazi official and founder of the anti-Semitic newspaper Der Stürmer, Julius Streicher. Other items included are Nazi Party flags/fabrics, Paul K. Dougherty's camera, and camera accessories.

The collection features items relating to clubs and organizations that Peggy Barker Teague was involved with during her years at Florida State College for Women, especially the Spirogira honor society, Tarpon Club, and the College Government Association. This includes newspaper clippings, ephemeral documents, and two scrapbooks containing similar documents and items. The largest item is a pillow with the Spirogira skull and cross bones.

The Sam Lamar Collection consists mainly of correspondence, photographs, and other documents from 1946-1951 related to his time as a student at the Tallahassee Branch of the University of Florida (TBUF) and later Florida State University.

This collection relates to First Sergeant William Ernest Spence who served with the 11th Antiaircraft Auto Weapons Group in the European Theater during the World War II. The collection includes letters, foreign currency, military service documents, photographs, a newspaper, postcards, and ephemera.
