Consists of personal papers, correspondence, dissertation and field notes, documents regarding Maples' academic career and his forensic investigations/cases, photographs, publications, and administrative records documenting Maples' career as a world-renown forensic anthropologist between 1960 and 1997. Evaluation of the 7120 articles, constituting the William R. Maples Collection, donated to the Florida Gulf Coast University was conducted by William M. Goza in December 2006. A formal appraisal of materials was submitted the Florida Gulf Coast University Library.
Assessment of the primate materials, consisting of 2 skulls and 11 skeletons, was conducted by Maxilla & Mandible, LTD in May 2006. A formal appraisal of materials was submitted the Florida Gulf Coast University Library.
