Summary

Abstract:
Ellen Peterson, formerly Ellen Salisbury and Ellen Welch, was a woman before her time. From traveling across the country on a bike in her twenties to becoming a staunch environmentalists later in life, she cemented her legacy in the creation of the Happehatchee Center in Estero, Florida to inspire peace and healing. Ellen was heavily involved with saving Fisheating Creek in Florida, and continued to raise awareness about climate change and the environment until her parting. This collection includes the scrapbook and journal from her bike trip, family photos, and correspondence from various stages of her life. Also included are projector slides, Sierra Club awards, an energy map of SW Florida, posters, bumper stickers, Happehatchee flyers, pictures of her Florida home which later became a part of Happehatchee. The largest part of this collection are the newspapers documenting her effort to save the planet.
