This collection relates to Daniel Dean Becker who served in the 110th Signal Corps, 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II. This collection contains a veterans questionnaire and memoir entitled "Memoirs of a Signalman: 110 Signal Compant, 10th Mountain Division, Italy World War II."
- Biographical / Historical:
Daniel Dean Becker was born on July 30, 1925 in Southbend, Indiana. In December 1943, shortly after his 18th birthday, Becker was inducted at Camp Atteberry in Southern Indiana. From there, he was assigned to the Signal Corps and send to Camp Crowder for basic training. Becker then went to Chicago where he learned the automatic dial central office repair. He was then sent to Camp Carson, Colorado. He served in the 10th Mountain Division as a mule skinner. Becker then went to Italy where he fixed switchboards. Becker was discharged on April 23, 1946. Following his service, Becker worked as an electrical engineer starting with the Navy missile program before joining NASA in Houston. Daniel Dean Becker passed away in 2008 at the age of 83.
