Scope and Contents
Series I: Cases 1984-2000, contains the actual cases, memoranda, Florida Statutes, and prior rulings that set the precedent on how the court should rule.
Series II: Legal Files 1964-2002, holds the agreements for property, use of logos, legal agreements, memoranda, and newspaper clippings.
Series III: Budget 1997-2002, contains the office's yearly budget analysis over a six year period.
Series IV: Miscellaneous Files 1968-1994, contains memoranda, agreements, and brochures about various topics.

Biographical or Historical Information
When Florida Technological University was established in 1963, the Division of Procurement was used to buy the initial land needed to build the university. The Division of Procurement was the precursor to the current UCF General Counsel. General Counsel is the chief lawyer council and provides legal services for the university only. This organization should not be confused with the Student Legal Services. The legal services provided by the General Counsel is civil litigation, adminstrative, and judicial proceedings. General Counsel gives legal advice to the University of Central Florida such as legal agreements on property and permission to use the UCF logo.

Abstract
The Office of the General Counsel strives to protect the University of Central Florida from adverse legal and financial consequences and to provide counseling to university units and departments by using the foundational principles that guide the conduct, performance, and decisions of the university. This collection of records contains documents relating to the General Counsel's dealings with the legal advice and cases the university has been involved in the past.
Arrangement Note
This collection is divided into four series by subject then either alphabetically or chronologically within the series.
Method of Acquisition
The University of Central Florida Office of the General Counsel transferred these materials to the University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives in 2005 (CFU2005_19 and CFU2005_26), in 2008 (CFU2008_13), in 2015 (CFU2015_21), and in 2016 (CFU2016_48).

Processing Information
Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Kristin Miller in 2009. Staples and paperclips were removed from documents and replaced with plastic clips. All materials were placed into acid free folders and in an acid free box. Pictures, stickers, and newspaper clippings were placed into appropriate housing. Additional items related to the Office of General Counsel were located in backlog unprocessed materials and were added to the collection in 2018. The acquisition method field and the subjects were updated by Kryslynn Collazo in 2018, resulting in edition 2.
